We are delighted that you are interested in this vital role within NHS England and NHS Improvement as Chief Executive of the Accelerated Access Collaborative and Director of Innovation, Research & Life Sciences.
It is an incredibly exciting time to be working in health innovation and you will be responsible in making it faster and easier to undertake research in the NHS, and to help build a pipeline of innovations which meets NHS needs, accelerating the adoption and spread of proven innovations to deliver benefit to patients. The team is responsible for implementing the Research and Innovation strategy in the NHS Long Term Plan, ensuring the NHS plays its full part in implementation of the Life Sciences Sector Deal and delivering the expanded remit of the Accelerated Access Collaborative (AAC).
The AAC’s ambition is to help make the UK one of the most pro-innovation health systems in the world. The AAC board is chaired by Lord Darzi and brings together a unique partnership between patient groups, government bodies, industry and NHS bodies, all working together to streamline the adoption of new innovations in healthcare. The AAC delivery team has been established in NHS England and NHS Improvement to support the AAC’s work.
We are looking for someone who has outstanding relationship management skills, alongside the ability to build credibility and trust with very senior colleagues in government, academia, industry and the NHS, along with the ability to achieve outputs which will shape and deliver a number of national programmes. The role will suit a candidate with enthusiasm and resilience to navigate a complex and uncertain environment and who enjoys the intellectual challenge of solving complex policy and real work practical challenges.
The 80 plus team members within NHS England and NHS Improvement are part of the Commercial Directorate and we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, compassionate workforce which supports all our colleagues to achieve their potential. You will be joining us during an exciting time as we build on the initial work we’ve already delivered to improve NHS research efficiencies and innovation adoption. We set the strategy and priorities for a more effective innovation ecosystem to ensure research and innovation meets the needs of the NHS. We are working hand-in-hand with patients and the public to accelerate the introduction of proven innovations which can transform care and lives.
